IC 434 -The Horsehead Nebula

Date Taken: 11/21/2014, 12/13/2014
Scope: William Optics Megrez 90 with Televue 0.8x FR/FF, f/5.5, 496mm
Camera: QSI 583wsg with Astrodon Tru-Balance E-Series Gen2 filters
Temp: -15C

Exposure: LRGB 170:75:80:80 all unbinned.

Calibrated and Stacked with CCDStack 2; RGB combine and DDP with Maxim DL; Final processing with CS4.

To bring out more red and downplay the blue stars, I used an enhanced red channel, then luminance, then ehnaaanced red again as luminance layers. I finished with a final luminance layer, but restricted it to the 4 reflection nebulae.

There's a lot in this image: four reflection nebulae, IC431 and IC432 at left, and NGC2023 and IC435 below center; the Flame Nebula, NGC2024, at lower left; IC434 the large red emission nebula, and Barnard 33, the dark nebula that forms the horse head.
