The Fox Fur Nebula is part of a much larger nebula and cluster complex colloquially known as the Christmas Tree Nebula. The Fox Fur Nebula is a collection of gas and dust, superimposed over a background reflection nebula. It is so named because it resembles the head of a red fox stole. It doesn't have an NGC designation itself, but is catalogued separately as Sharpless-273. It is about 2750 light years away in Monoceros.
