M8 - The Lagoon Nebula

Date Posted: 9/21/2021
Date Taken: 6/5/2021, 6/14/2021, 6/17/2021, 6/27/2021
Scope: Planewave CDK 12.5 f/8, 2541mm
Camera: SBIG STL-11000 with Astrodon Tru-Balance E-Series Gen2 filters
Temp: -15C, -12C, -10C
Mount: Losmandy Titan
Guiding: On-axis via ONAG-XM and SX UltraStar at 2541mm. FocusLock real-time focus for focusing.
Exposure: LRGB, 250:100:120:120. Luminance 10min unbinned; RGB 5min binned 2x2.

Calibrated and Stacked with CCDStack2. Processed with CS4.

Calibration was a pain, but only because I shot at 3 different temperatures, and needed multiple sets of darks. I reached -15C on first night, but couldn't quite reach it on second night. I chose -12C because I already had darks at that temp, and I could reach -12C (barely). On the third night, I couldn't quite make -12C, so I settled on -10C. By the fourth night, I was back at -15C.

For some reason, CCDStack Data Rejection has some issues with the luminance and blue channels. I did the color combine without background equalization, and processing in PS was relatively easy. I am very pleased with this image.

This one is a keeper for sure. I will be adding Ha data I've collected to this in the very near future.
